How It All Began
Brian Gibson, owner of Jalan Jalan Imports and Topanga Rocks, fell in love with Bali, its crafts and culture during a vacation in 1994. Ten years later, after purchasing a home in Topanga, Brian traveled back to Bali to purchase furniture and building materials for his property. What he didn’t use was sold to the community. That was the first of several trips and many containers of Bali treasures that were imported and sold from his garage. Brian likes to joke that nearly every household in Topanga has something from his inventory.
The recession of 2008 put the brakes on things, but in 2010 the property where Jalan Jalan Imports and Topanga Rocks now resides came on the market. Brian was inspired to purchase it and turn his intermittent importing into a legitimate business. Over the years, Brian and his staff grew the business and began introducing crystals and rocks into the product line. In 2020 the store was renovated, and the store’s interior shifted to selling mostly crystals and rocks, while the outside has continued to be mostly Balinese imports.
After 12 years in business, we feel like we’ve evolved into carrying the most unique inventory of goods imaginable. Jalan Jalan Imports and Topanga Rocks has grown to be one of the Los Angeles area’s most interesting destinations. It’s more than a store, it’s an experience.
